and the SOUTHBOUND BAND
Randy Woody and the Southbound Band is a progressive team of musicians all from Monroe County, in rural southeastern Tennessee, striving to continue the true spirit of classic country music with southern style.
Randy Woody and the Southbound Band has gained a solid reputation as Tennessee’s premier country music, dance, party and show band. With originals that have been described as “Songs with substance” and “an intoxicating heartbreak”. If you look at the band’s experience it’s no surprise. The members of Randy Woody and the Southbound Band are no strangers to the performing world, with the first performance in 2006. The chemistry that has evolved from these guys coming together is amazing.
We have worked with Heidi Newfield, of Trick Pony fame, Joey and Rory, David Allan Coe, Gretchen Wilson and Trent Tomlinson at Cotton Eyed Joe’s in Knoxville Tennessee, Luke Bryan at the Tennessee Valley Fair in Knoxville and for the Kentucky Head Hunters in Benton Tennessee. Our music has received airplay on some east Tennessee Radio stations including 107.7 WIVK and 101.7 WLAR. We also have recently wrapped up production of a full length outdoor concert video, and are looking forward to all the new opportunities this coming year.
ABOUT THE BAND
Randy Woody, Lead Singer and founding member of Randy Woody and the Southbound Band is a talented musician and songwriter. He has currently written all of the bands original songs. Randy Woody delivers heartfelt intoxicating lyrics with his signature deep voice used to full effect to deliver their unique and outlaw country style. Randy takes to the band stand each night with a passion and fever just as hot as the song burning in his heart, always tipping his hat to the country music greats that have paved this road before him.
Lead Guitar, Jason Harris plays with a passion and drive that you hardly find in today’s popular music. Jason is a born leader, and you can see it in every note he plays as he conducts the rhythm section like a musical general. It is no doubt that his tireless work ethic and attention to detail have been a key part of the team that makes up Randy Woody and the Southbound Band.
Bassist Jeff Gantt is a classically trained musician. With a background in classical music, Jeff has performed with the Knoxville Youth Symphony, the University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra as well as several other symphony and orchestral groups. Jeff traded in the tuxedo clad gigs for boots and a cowboy hat when he joined Southbound in 2016.
Southern Ohio native Mark Barnhart fills the drum throne for Southbound. Sneaking into local bars to play since the age of 15, Mark has had success in various musical projects opening for artists ranging from Reba and Travis Tritt to LA Guns and Skid Row. Mark recently released his own signature drumstick, the #dirtysouth stick, which can be found exclusively through XCEL drumsticks.
Randy Woody and the Southbound Band is driven by their passion for real country music, and their unyielding desire to create and entertain. It is that intensity that is captured every time they step on stage.

MUSIC CITY INVASION: Randy Woody & Southbound take a ‘Boogie’ time out on the way to conquering Nashville
In his heart of hearts, Randy Woody hopes Nashville has reached a tipping point. Certain things, many of which go on behind closed industry doors that he’s happened to be privy to in recent weeks, seem to indicate it, and with any luck, the “bro-country” fad — the...read more
Randy’s lead vocals, a deep country rock voice that leaves you wanting more, and Jason Harris’ lead guitar licks filled the auditorium with a solid hard hitting sound. Aaron Kirby on keyboards, Phil Davis on bass, and Blake Rider on drums harmonized to round out the group’s sound. Overall, I was impressed with the new group (new to me at least). They brought their loyal fans and everyone enjoyed themselves.read more
